portugal: art & archeology residency in redondo (2026)
Myself and two other artists (Krystyny Vandenberg & Kai Chan) travelled to Redondo, Portugal to work alongside the Santa Susana Archeology Project in our own art residency experience. We co-created this 6’x10’ drawing telling the visual story of everything we witnessed on our two week stay. Imagery of the archeologists, plant life, architecture, food, animals, mosaic tile design, and more found it’s way into this piece of work. Upon sharing it publicly in a local pottery artist’s home, archeologists and other community members were invited to color in the black & white ink drawing, bringing it further to life. Archeology discovers the inhabitants of the past and we surveyed the inhabitants in the present of Redondo.

The public work was shown at a local pottery artist’s home who grew up in this community of Redondo. Below, archeologists and students fill in the drawings with color - making this a collaborative experience.
Additionally we created individual smaller artworks that were displayed. Below are my three watercolor and ink paintings of scenes found in Redondo.
